The face of facilities management

The Facilithon Action Figures are the faces of an untold number of students who are perfect candidates for the Facilities Management career that only need be identified. They each have special skills untold by classic curricular models only because the job, a unique job, doesn’t follow the rules, it needs a person who beats its odds daily.

While the The Facilithon is a unique SkillsUSA competition, the Facilithon action figures, commonly named Wiggly Guy and Wiggly Girrrl, share the four empirical qualities and remind instructors who we’re looking for. They hold springy placards that says “Likes People, Likes Buildings, Likes Action & Variety, Thinks on one’s feet”. That’s a unique person, not a high school curriculum. Given most Facility Managers learn a great deal on the job, these attributes help define a successful candidate.

Students love “Wiggly Guy” and move their instructors to take one back to their classroom. Wiggly Guy remains on desks around the country, reminding instructors daily that there are students who need the opportunity only if they knew of it.  Wiggly guy is the on-ramp, to Educators, Facilithon and the perfect career.

The second element of our promotion is purely human. We consistently volunteer at SkillsUSA student events, an imperative to succeed in SkillsUSA. We ask and are oft granted the opportunity to speak about our program at our table or their awards presentation events.  We further our partnership by committing at minimum, 1 additional volunteer per event, so we become part of their team, not just a sponsor.

We contend that without our messaging, wiggly guy would only remind, but not anchor The Facilithon brand. Our program has shared the career path, its opportunity and our event with over 4,500 SkillsUSA students, many of whom hear the Wiggly Guy speech two or three times. Without Wiggly Guy and activated volunteers sharing his message, our program would have never launched and to that end, our mascot represents the best first impression the Facilities Management institution as a whole could imagine, manifested.
